Two Must Do Disney World Side Quests

As older travelers, Disney World during Spring Break is usually at the bottom of our recommendations. Don’t get us wrong, Disney World is a fun place to visit for any one of any age, in fact, it is one of our favorites. There is lots to do and see, it’s a great place to explore solo or with friends and family, just maybe not during spring break. We do our best here at Silver Backpack to avoid crowds! Sometimes it is inevitable. Due to a family members performance scheduled at Disney Springs, we found ourselves smack dab in the middle of Mickey ears and spring break crowds. We did make the most of it! We took it easy, dropped all expectations, and had a good time, despite the high volume of people everywhere we went. We did manage to find solace in a couple of side quests. A side quest is something that was not on the original itinerary and not usually part of the big picture when planning a vacation, but they are a whole ton of fun when they happen. It is those spontaneous moments that make for happy memories. Here are our two favorites from this short trip!

1. Beignets at Scat Cat’s Club

Are you a fan of New Orleans and find yourself in Disney World? We recommend finding your way to Port Orleans French Quarter and picking up a Mickey shaped beignet, or three. They may not be the mouth watering, perfectly made beignet from Cafe Du Monde, but they are still good and worth the trip if you have the time. You get a choice of caramel or chocolate dipping sauces, and we definitely recommend choosing both! These sweet snacks with a sneeze worthy amount of powdered sugar topped our list of favorite treats this trip, and if you really want to add extra pizazz, get the beignet sundae, or better yet, from the bar you can order Baton Rouge Beignets, where you can enjoy a Bailey’s Irish Cream filled beignet and enjoy some live jazz.

2. Riding the Disney Skyliner

The Disney Skyliner is the free transportation system that connects Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean beach, and Riviera Resorts to Epcot and Disney Hollywood Studios theme parks, and they are fun! We stayed at Disney’s Pop Century Resort for this trip and took full advantage of the Skyliner. These air gondolas are easy to navigate, and easy to get on and off. They take you on a relaxing ride above the tree tops, giving you a unique view of Walt Disney World Resorts. While the purpose of the Skyliner is to get you from your resort to a theme park with ease, we found these to be better than the busses and enjoyable to ride just for the sake of riding! We took a few trips just for the sake of the ride and enjoying the view. We lucked out one night and found ourselves at the perfect time on the Skyliner to catch some of the fireworks from Epcot’s nighttime show, making for one of those impromptu magical moments that Disney is known for.

While Disney offers itself to many fun and exciting side quests, these were our top favorites from this trip. Beating the Spring Break crowds and enjoying a smaller corner of Disney to ourselves made for a very pleasant time. What are your favorite Disney side quests?
